Avalanche of Hits on New Window Manager Site -- Huge Interest in Linux port of Indigo Magic Desktop

07-Feb-01 12:00 GMT

48 hours after an announcement of the 5Dwm window manager project in Slashdot, the www.5dwm.org website was flooded by users. The site activity in the 48 hours after the announcement was 1.4 million hits with 6.35 gigabytes of downloads.

This would indicate that there's a very great deal of interest in a Motif desktop for Linux (and FreeBSD).

The new window manager is a port of the SGI Irix Motif-based window manager. Visit www.5dwm.org for more information and a download, and read the thread on Slashdot at http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=01/02/03/1358223&mode=nested for more background and some animated discussion.

Come back to motifdeveloper.com soon for more news on this development as it breaks.
